Dale Watson is a real Country artist.

Dale Watson at Susanna’s Kitchen

There is no higher praise for Dale Watson than that of Willie Nelson, who counts himself as “one of Dale’s biggest fans.” On December 20, this “keeper of the true country music flame” will bring his brand of American roots music back to Susanna’s Kitchen Coffeehouse in Wimberley.

To differentiate his music from the current crop of Nashville-based pop country, Dale has christened his brand of old-style honkytonk with plenty of steel and fiddle, “Ameripolitan.”

Dubbed “the silver pompadoured, baritone beltin’, Lone Star beer drinkin’, honky-tonk hellraiser” by The Austin Chronicle, Watson has enjoyed a storied career. Besides such highlights as sitting in with Jimmy Kimmel’s band during a live ABC show broadcast from SXSW, Watson also emceed the first ever SXSW “Ameripolitan” showcase featuring the best of Honky-tonk, Outlaw Country, Rockabilly and Texas Swing music.

The Alabama-born, Texas-raised Watson may be the hardest working entertainer today and is rapidly approaching legendary status. A veteran touring artist and consummate entertainer, Dale is on the road more than 300 days a year, but currently makes his home in Memphis, Tennessee.

His most recent album, “Blackjack,” recorded in 2017 in Austin was a retrospective of sorts and included the title track as the only new, original track.

As The Troy Record has said of him, “To call Dale Watson’s music country is like calling Ray Charles’ music soul ... both have an air of authenticity that transcends genres and demands that they be put into a class of one.”

You won’t want to miss Dale Watson on Thursday, December 20 at Susanna’s Kitchen Coffeehouse. Located at the corner of RR 12 and CR 1492 (at Wimberley United Methodist Church), doors open by 7:00 pm and the concert begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $25 for adults, $5 for kids (at the door only.) Pizza, tamales, pie, coffee and soft drinks are available. Proceeds benefit The Barnabas Connection, Operation Good Shepherd, Camp Good Sam–Wimberley and WUMC’s Bright Beginnings Preschool.
