Celebrate the Wimberley Players for 40 years of Amazing Theatre

On Sept. 28, the Wimberley Players will hold their annual fundraiser and celebrate the joyful occasion of their 40th anniversary. Celebrate the Wimberley Players will be held at Vintage Oaks Farm Event Center at 400 Limestone Lane in Driftwood from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. The festivities will get underway to the music of Marvin Bottera and Broken Glass.

“This year we want to celebrate in Hill Country style,” says Bob Smith, the Players VP development and fundraiser chair. “We have so much to commemorate and our invitation goes out to everyone who has been or wants to be a part of the WP story. Not only will we have music and dancing and terrific libations, but delicious, Texas-inspired fare from Miss Red’s. A historical exhibit and display will show guests our memorable and groundbreaking journey.”

A welcome margarita sponsored by Dripping Springs Vodka and beer from Real Ale Brewing Company will be available, along with wine and other beverages. A half dozen unique items and experiences will be presented by Players president and auctioneer David Bisett. A week’s stay in Nova Scotia or a weekend sojourn in the Hill Country are up for auction along with a viticulturalist’s wine class and paella dinner, as well as “walk on parts” in one of next year’s plays.

For a change of pace, this year’s sponsorship opportunities involve underwriting components of the event. For information call David Bisett, 512-923-0561.

In 1979, a group of friends lamented that “there was nothing to do around here.” From there, Wimberley Players, Inc. was formed, and an organizational meeting held. In 1980 an old greenhouse in Woodcreek was renovated and “Our Town” debuted. In 2001, land was purchased on RR12 for a permanent theatre but in 2004 a better plan emerged to buy an existing building near the Village Square on Old Kyle Rd. It proved to be an excellent decision and the Players moved into their current home in 2006. Now, four decades, more than 180 plays, numerous events, and countless rehearsals later, the WP is a thriving regional icon of the arts.
