Blue Hole brings nature to you

The city of Wimberley and Blue Hole Regional Park have multiple events planned over the coming weeks and months to help you get involved with nature.

Birds and Brew

Are you an aspiring birder who wants to learn more about birds? Join Blue Hole Regional Park as they go on a bird outing through Blue Hole searching for feathered friends with aviary biologists from SWCA Environmental Consultants.

The group will meet in the swimming area parking lot for coffee and conversation before the outing. Bring your own reusable mug or use the cups we provide. Kid-friendly binoculars will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Birds and Brew will be held on September 25 and November 13 at Blue Hole at 8 a.m. and runs until 9:30 a.m.

Bringing Nature Education to Wimberley and Beyond

Whether you are a nature novice or an expert, the city of Wimberley Parks and Recreation department will host sixteen nature education programs over the next year that are perfect for anyone as part of their new Parks to Communities initiative. Come partake in programs like the Owl Prowl, Tree Trek or observe bats at night. Bring your family and friends of all ages to experience the Texas Hill Country Environment in a new light and interact with nature hands-on in an experience you won’t forget.

Program Dates are as Follows:

Bats and You!

September 18th 7-8pm

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, NO! It’s a Bat! Join the city of Wimberley Parks and Recreation Department learn about the myths of bats, their crucial role in the Hill Country Ecosystem, and stay up late as we go view our local bat colony!

Owl Prowl

October 6th 8-9pm, November 3rd 7:30-8:30pm, December 1st 7-8pm

Knock, knock? Who, who, who’s there? Nocturnal Animals! Join us in this incredible opportunity as we trek across Blue Hole Regional Park in search of owls! Come practice your owl calls, dissect an owl pellet, and explore the park at night. The program is $10 per person.

Nocturnal Animal Outing

October 23rd 8-9pm

Foxes, Coyotes, and Owls OH MY! Ever wondered what comes out when we are asleep and how this could be advantageous? Discover what native animals come out to play when humans are away. Learn about their various adaptations, the nocturnal food chain, and more! Price is $5 per participant.

Fire Skills & Safety

December 9th 5:30-7pm

Come join us after dark in this evening program! Sit with a staff member as they go over how to build a proper fire, cook with fire, and cover the many myths and legends of the Southwest. This is a free program! Registration required!
