Blanco River book reading at library

The Wimberley Lions Club will welcome author, Wes Ferguson, to their club meeting on Tuesday, November 6, at 6:00 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center. His second book, The Blanco River was published in 2017. At the meeting, he will talk about it and sign copies. One of his readers, Lion Frank Curtis noted, “Ferguson’s book tells a highly entertaining story of the history and the people who have lived and still live along this short, only 87 mile-long, but amazingly impactful Texas river. It is a “must read” for anyone interested in the history and the future of the Wimberley Valley.”

An excerpt from “Chapter One: The White River” follows. “One morning, I went for a walk in the middle of the Blanco River. It was the dead of summer in Texas, and the Blanco had run dry, other than a few low pools trapped in depressions of the riverbed. From bank to bank, drifts of gravel rose and fell like the undulating dunes of a white desert. In less than nine months a terrible flood would sweep down this river. The raging Blanco would destroy hundreds of homes, fell an estimated fifteen thousand trees, and kill twelve people. As I hiked across the desiccated riverbed, however, the perils of flood were far from mind.”

Before writing The Blanco River, Ferguson authored Running the River: Secrets of the Sabine. This year, he has added the title of “Editor” to his literary accomplishments. He explained, “In April, I became the managing editor of ‘Texas Highways’, the official travel magazine of Texas.” For more information, visit his website at www.wesferguson.net and follow him on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wesferg.
