Bats over Wimberley

Finally, I have seen this year’s bat colony fly out from under Cypress Creek Bridge. They were late doing so this year because, as I was told, the rains caused so many mosquitoes to be available that the bats were coming out after dark to go after them, much later than their usual exit time. Now, they are flying out by the THOUSANDS around 20 minutes before sundown. For me, this past Saturday night, they flew out about 7:45. Friends who were with me were stunned that there were THOUSANDS of them. They had rather naively thought that there were just a few hundred, if that many. Truly, it is quite an impressive sight. No need to go to Austin to see their bats. And, here in Wimberley, you are much closer to them. Just go down to Cypress Creek, sit on the benches in a beautiful setting, and wait for the magnificent exodus of these Mexican free-tailed bats. Be sure to take friends and grandchildren.

To celebrate this awesome Wimberley spectacle, the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center is sponsoring its first ever Bat Festival, WOW or Wings Over Wimberley. WHAT??? Three days of play and fun to watch the bats fly away. Family fun, food, art, music and activities. WHEN???? FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY…SEPT. 13,14,15. The fun begins at 6:00 on Friday on the Wimberley Square and near Cypress Creek Bridge. WATCH FOR MORE DETAILS BUT DON’T FORGET TO PUT THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR!
