Barnabas is more than back to school

“The 5K Run/Walk will take place at Blue Hole Regional Park starting at 8 a.m. for a timed run for individual or teams. At 9 a.m. a 1K Family Run/Walk will be held for contestants of all ages.

“In addition to the Run/ Walk there will also be events for the whole family to do and have fun. There will be a Fire Truck, games, face painting, and more. Chef Jay will be there. Also Kelly Evers and Creekside Cookers and other food trailers are participating,” Miller said.

The non-profit 501(c) (3) organization not only provides health and human services but are also advocates for those less for-School is back in session and students that received new backpacks and school supplies are putting them to good use thanks to the Barnabas Connection. But the organization is a lot more than just a backpack provider – and they have a new fundraiser to help.

“The only thing that is holding us back is financing to do this…On October 20, we will offer the first of what we hope to be the annual Barnabas Connection 5K Run/Wall,” Event Chair for the Barnabas Connection, David Miller said. “It is geared for the entire family.”

Barnabas Connection was started in 2004 helping families and individuals, and in 2015 were major players after the floods decimated Wimberley, helping all who needed help in getting their lives back together.

But there are events that happen throughout the year, keeping BC always busy. Some of the events are:

• The Christmas Store offers reduced price gifts for needy families.

• Best Buds provides for mentoring elementary student in math and reading.

• Operation Good Shepherd is a financial assistance fund provided by the Wimberley Ministerial Alliance but administered by BC for those in crisis situations, such as medical, housing or other emergency needs.

• The Barnabas Help line provides health and human services for up to 90 people per month.

Barnabas Connection is in its 15 year in providing services to the Wimberley community.
