Art studio hosting fall open house, student art show

An exhibit of paintings by more than a dozen students who take adult acrylic and watercolor painting classes at Casa de Linda Art Studio will be featured during a Fall Open House, set for 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, and from Noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14.

This will be the first student art show organized by owner and instructor Linda Calvert Jacobson since she relocated her studio to Wimberley in early 2017. Jacobson specializes in teaching art for adults — especially beginners.

“When you hear the word ‘student,’ it’s natural to think of someone young who is in school or maybe college,” Jacobson said. “But when it comes to learning and honing skills, students come in all ages. Having this art show during our Fall Open House is a way for us to showcase some of the work produced in the studio over the last year or so.”

In addition to artwork by adult students, the exhibit will include a small number of paintings by children ages 10-13 who attend the after-school classes.

Jacobson says that the support for her art classes by not only Wimberley residents but people from throughout the area has been amazing.

“In any given week, I’ll have not only local folks coming to study art with me, but people driving in from Austin, Dripping Springs, Buda, New Braunfels, Blanco and even San Antonio to take our adult painting and drawing classes,” Jacobson said.

In addition to enjoying the exhibit of student art, visitors will also get to tour the facilities, learn about upcoming classes and see a wide selection of Jacobson’s own paintings as well as work from some visiting artists. Molly White will be exhibiting her whimsical watercolor and oil paintings, and will be selling her homemade goat milk soaps. Mary Reeves will have some of her pastels available and Sandy Oberg will have a selection of her mixed media art. All three artists got their start in classes with Jacobson when her studio was still in New Braunfels.

Oct. 13 is also Wimberley’s Second Saturday Gallery Trail. Ten local galleries will be open from 4-7 p.m. for the monthly event. Since the Open House will be held during “Second Saturday,” the public is invited to stroll across the street and toward the Square to visit Wildflower Art Gallery, which is owned by Jacobson and her husband David, as well as the other galleries on trail.

Casa de Linda Art Studio is located at the back of the parking lot at 13620 Ranch Road 12, next door to WAG’s Treasures on Twelve thrift store.
