Adam and Chris Carroll to play at Susanna’s Kitchen

He’s Texas born and bred, she’s a Canadian by birth. The two singer-songwriters met while touring and married 5 years ago. Now Adam and Chris Carroll make Wimberley their home base, although much of their time is spent on tour criss-crossing the US, Canada, and Europe. So it’s a rare treat when their new hometown gets to hear them in concert. They will take the stage at Susanna’s Kitchen Coffeehouse on October 18th.

Adam Carroll is one of those songwriters with a rare command of language and an amazing sense of melody. Carroll is on the short list of down-home storytellers taking events of ordinary lives and turning them into deeply moving, often humorous songs. He’s earned enviable comparisons to the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Todd Snider, John Prine, and even Bob Dylan. Like those songwriters, Carroll uses ironic but heartfelt humor to leaven his sometimes personal, emotional, and always poignant observations.

Adam’s tunes are marvels of economy, constantly inventive and decidedly offbeat. The reach of Carroll’s songwriting influence on other musicians became most evident in 2016 when Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll was released, featuring esteemed writers/performers like Hayes Carll, James McMurtry, Slaid Cleaves, and Terri Hendrix covering Carroll-penned tunes. The album garnered attention from Texas Monthly and Rolling Stone, the latter publication noting that Carroll is talented beyond his years.

His wife and partner Chris Carroll is a singer-songwriter in her own right, having released an EP and in 2014 the fulllength album, Trouble & Time. Her music has been described as genre-bending, an intoxicating mixture of Americana, jazz, R&B, blues and country setting her apart. Her lyrics are concise and entrancing, revealing a knack for phrase turning. Her sweet, honest voice and delivery allows the listener to really settle into the songs regardless of which genre she happens to be channeling at the time.

Together, Adam and Chris Carroll’s distinct energies and personalities play off each other onstage, and the effect is both moving and entertaining in a show that has been delighting crowds from coast to coast.

Susanna’s Kitchen Coffeehouse is located at the corner of RR 12 and CR 1492 (at Wimberley United Methodist Church). Doors open by 7:00 pm and the concert begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at the door and are $20 for adults, $5 for kids. Pizza, tamales, pie, coffee and soft drinks are available. Proceeds benefit The Barnabas Connection, Camp Good Sam Wimberley, Operation Good Shepherd, and Bright Beginnings PreSchool.
