18ten 10K run for disadvantaged kids

Early Saturday morning October 2, a 10K/5K run is scheduled to be held. It’s a 10k, 5k, Family Fun Run, with the start and finish at the First Baptist Church parking lot in Wimberley. “It’s a road and trail race. And we’ve got a team competition going on,” Samantha Lingamfelter said.

“We’ve got a few teams already registered like Camp Gladiator, sponsors have created teams and families have even created teams.”

Just picture, a cool October morning low humidity and the feeling you can run for hours, that is the type of morning October brings. But also there are lots of prizes. “We’ve got prizes for the top finishers of each division. It’ll be the male and female 10k, male and female 5k and one for the top finishing team and prizes for kids.”

“18ten is a faith-based charitable organization created to respond to the needs of orphans and other disadvantaged children in Central America,” according to their website. Home base is in Dripping Springs and presently helping those in Nicaragua.

18ten refers to the Bible’s New Testament, Matthew Chapter 18 verse 10, “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones; for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”

“They started it in 2015, as a school for disadvan taged kids. It’s grades one through five, but it started out as a before and after school program. Forty kids in the morning, and then after school, but it has grown. Now there are about 80 kids, but it’s grown with funds that God has blessed us with. Now there’s a building and teachers in Nicaragua.”

If you’d like to virtually run in your own neighborhood, there is a virtual op tion and one can still support the cause. Same rules apply about t-shirts & swag for those. Sooner the better to sign up, but walk-up registrations are welcome; however, they are not guaranteed shirt/swag.
