Oak Grove Fire burns near the Wimberley Valley

A wildfire has broken out east of Wimberley in the 200 block of Oak Grove Road in San Marcos, according to Hays County officials.

The fire, named the Oak Grove Fire (formerly the Fox Fire), was estimated by the Hays County Wildland Task Force to cover approximately 80 to 85 acres around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5. The fire is currently moving in a northwest direction, and approximately 12 households have been evacuated at this time, according to the Hays County Office of Emergency Management. The Promised Land Church is open as a temporary shelter, located at 1650 Lime Kiln Road in San Marcos.

"The fire is very active, and structures are threatened," the Texas A&M Forest Service posted at 5:28 p.m. "Additional aircraft have been ordered to assist."

Multiple emergency response teams have been called to the scene, including the Texas A&M Forest Service, which is currently reporting 0% containment.

An update from the forest service at 6:15 p.m. put the estimation of burned land around 100 acres.

"Crews are engaged in structure protection while dozers construct line along the right flank of the fire," the forest service added. "At this time, the fire remains south of the Blanco River."

As of 8:56 p.m., the Oak Grove Fire burned an estimated 300 acres and was 10% contained, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. 

"Foward progression stopped," the forest service posted. "Dozers continue to work along the right flank of the fire while hand crews work along the left flank. Engine crews remain engaged in structure protection."
