With Hanukkah stories reaching back more than 2,000 years, prayers, music and traditional potato latkes, a Menorah lighting ceremony was held on the Wimberley Square last week. Rabbi Ari Weingarten of Chabad of San Marcos addressed the crowd of approximately 75 people who gathered for the event. He explained that the lighting of the Menorah encourages humans to “bring light to the darkness,” which was echoed by Rabbi Pinni Katz of Johannesburg, South Africa who also spoke. The ceremony took place on the sixth night of Hanukkah, a festival which began this year at sunset on December 7 and ended December 15. 12/21/2023 12:00 AM

The Wimberley View office at 101 FM 3237 has been making changes. We would like to thank our customers for their patience during our renovations and to apologize for any inconvenience they have experienced. Merry Murder at Old Glory Ranch
Murder, its resulting mayhem, and mirth delighted guests at Old Glory Ranch last week during the “Deck the Halls with Merry Murder” mystery theatre and dinner. More than a hundred guests attended the event. As the dinner got underway, news of a murder shocked diners and before long, everyone at the table fell under suspicion. As suspects were interrogated by tablemates and other participants, shocking revelations were exposed and soon, it appeared that multiple people had the motive, the means, and the opportunity to commit the crime. Legal challenges to amendments appear quashed
A half-dozen lawsuits challenging the 13 approved Texas constitutional amendments appear to be dead in the water, The Dallas Morning News reported. The secretary of state’s office last week declared the propositions approved and now a part of the Texas Constitution, while Gov. Greg Abbott canvassed the election and certified the results. A snag for our birds
Many of us enjoy living in Wimberley because we share our space with wildlife. For many, bird watching is an avid hobby and for others a pleasant pastime. I fall into the second group, but I do love my backyard birds and try to provide for their needs. Environmental scientists consider our avian friends to be an indicator species.
