Woodcreek hosting Arbor Day, National Night Out celebrations
The face of Woodcreek has changed considerably since the 696 acres were incorporated in 1984. Climate change, drought and more recently, the threat of fire have all challenged citizens and community leaders in protecting our community resources. Sadly, many of the beautiful oak trees that lined the city streets and neighborhoods died, ravaged by oak wilt disease. The city needs new ideas, methods and community involvement to conserve the natural health. 09/29/2022 12:00 AM
Estivation
Estivation
In many parts of the world with hot dry summers, the plants and animals enter a state of estivation, which is a type of summer hibernation. This past summe when the weather in Wimberley was extremely hot and dry many of our plants (that didn’t die) went into estivation. When at last our rains came we witnessed a return of plant growth and in many cases, flowering. The purple Cenizo, rain lilies, mealy blue sage and lantana are all common native plants that recently resumed blooming. 09/29/2022 12:00 AM
