    ROB CAMPBELL

Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees

Rob Campbell

WV: What do you want to accomplish if elected?

Campbell: First, school safety is a major concernand rightfully so. A healthy culture that encourages teacher-student interaction and maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding bullying, coupled with logical safety measures are all important in achieving that goal. Second, my campaign theme is “It’s all about the kids.” I will keep this focus as a Trustee of the board. We must be careful not to major on the minors, get caught up in the minutia, but instead—keep our focus on the students. Finally, I will listen to the WISD faculty, administrators, students, and parents.

WV: What are the biggest changes you think WISD will face in the coming years and how would you address them?

Campbell: The WISD must appropriately manage growth. Over the last five years, student enrollment increased by 14%. Enrollment drives the budget, the district’s Robin Hood payment, the number of transfer students that can be received, space requirements, and the number of WISD employees. Working cooperatively with the Superintendent, the Board must exhibit wisdom and action regarding the growth that will continue.

WV: Throughout the design, bidding and construction of the new elementary school, what are your priorities and plans for oversight?

Campbell: While the design, bidding, and construction of the new school do not rest on the shoulders of the Board, the Trustees must demonstrate excellence in stewardship. A steward is one who manages the assets of another person, company, or organization. Contextually, the Board is responsible to grant oversight to the (recently passed) bond funds. In my estimation, this requires two components: excellent communication with the Superintendent and transparency with the taxpayers. In addition, this bond will be managed by a project management firm, in conjunction with the Superintendent and Board.

WV: What are areas of education that you would like to see implemented or emphasized within the school district for our students?

Campbell: First, because every student is not interested in attending a college or university, I would like to expand vocational specific skills, industry certification, practical experience, and job training. Next, I support a broader emphasis and implementation of computer technology, music, and art. Finally, one of the four strategic goals of the WISD is to “make a positive community impact.” Let’s continue to forge community partnerships, increase and affirm volunteerism, and emphasize responsibility and good citizenship.

WV: How do you plan to support Wimberley’s teachers and WISD staff?

Campbell: Teachers and staff deserve a Board that is inquisitive to their needs and listens to their ideas. Through excellent communication meshed with the eradication of personal agendas, trust happens. May this be a reality for WISD. Further, we are blessed with exemplary teachers and staff. Thankfully, despite budgetary constraints, the Board raised their pay on a consistent basis. I support continuing and even accelerating this practice when possible. During the budgetary process, I will support instructional funding recommendations from campus administration and the Superintendent, as well as, teacher/staff salary increases.
