Wimberley High School athletic director and head coach Doug Warren sat in the visitors’ locker room of the Alamodome Friday evening pondering the question: “In August, with all of the emotions swirling around about the football program, did you see this moment – preparing to play in the state championship game – as a possibility?” He paused, took in the moment, drew a cleansing breath and smiled that Warren grin.
Varsity boys basketball met numerous goals last week when the Salado Eagles came to the Texan Gym.

Last year’s Texan swim team graduated six of its twelve swimmers with only two of the remaining six returning to the pool this season.
The Wimberley Youth Soccer Club had two teams representing WYSC: the Wimberley Youth Sports Association and the Capitol Area Youth Soccer Association in the 2022 South Texas Youth Soccer Association’s Fall Playoffs in Schertz. The U11 Texans placed first in the entire region, the highest honor achievable by a D3 team, and the U12 Texans lost a hard-fought championship game to finish second in the region.
Texan football began their regional semi-final game against the Jarrell Cougars in an impressive fashion.
The Wimberley Youth Soccer Club qualified two teams for the Capital Area Youth Soccer Associations Champions Tournament, qualifying for the South Texas Youth Soccer Association’s Regional Playoffs on Dec. 3 and 4 in Schertz.
The Wimberley Texans faced off against the Orange Grove Bulldogs in round two of the UIL football playoffs last week.
Last Tuesday — and this Monday — both Texan and Lady Texan basketball teams hosted games in preparation of a busy season ahead, including a massive 32team tournament at the end of December here at home appropriately named “HoopFest.” The teams started play three weeks ago.
The Wimberley Texans advanced to Week Two of the Texas 4A Division 2 playoffs with their highest point total of the season, defeating Young Men’s Leadership Academy 81-0.
The Lady Texan volleyball team ran into a revenge-seeking buzzsaw last Tuesday night in the form of the Bellville Brahmanettes and their long-time coach, Susan Brewer.
Three Lady Texan seniors signed Letters of Intent to stay in Texas, continuing their athletic careers at the college level after graduation. Claire Valentine takes her skills as goalkeeper to the piney woods of East Texas, playing soccer for the Angeline County Lady Roadrunners. Fellow soccer teammate Emily Thames joins former Lady Texans Casey Crawford and Holly Harwood in San Angelo to make her mark on the pitch for the Angelo State Rambelles. Addison Kirbo moves northeast, up the road to Corsicana, signing to play softball with Navarro College’s Bulldogs.
The Wimberley High School Lady Texan volleyball team advanced to the third round of the UIL playoffs defeating the Young Womens’ Leadership Academy last Tuesday then following up against Needville Friday night.
