Wimberley boys and girls basketball compete at the Brownwood Holiday Classic

As football season ends, basketball season starts, or at least it seems that way sometimes.

For the Wimberley Lady Texans basketball team, their season has been going on since early November. The team came into this weekend’s tournament with an 8-8 record overall.

Starting pool play in Pool D with Abilene Cooper and Clint Mountain View, the Lady Texans kicked off the Holiday Classic with the Mountain View Lady Lobos.

In a hard fought battle, the Lady Texans fell to the Lady Lobos in a 38-27 loss.

The Lady Texans finished off pool play with Abilene Cooper. Though Wimberley hung tough with the Cougars, the Lady Texans couldn’t overcome a rough second quarter and fell to Abilene Cooper 55-33.

Finishing third in pool play, Wimberley battled the Corsicana Lady Tigers who finished third in Pool A.

In a very close game, the Lady Texans were edged out by the Lady Tigers in a 36-34 loss.

Wimberley then advanced to play the Miles Lady Bulldogs. Though the Lady Texans fought hard, it was enough to topple the Lady Bulldogs as Miles outscored Wimberley 14 to six in the fourth quarter in a 41-36 loss for the Lady Texans

Carson Crowder led the team in scoring in three of the four games averaging 8.75 points per game in the tournament. Aubrey Schoenert led the team in rebounding averaging six per game for the tournament. The team now has an 8-12 overall record.

For the Wimberley Texans Basketball team, the team received boost having the majority of their players back on the team fresh off the football team’s run to the State Championship.

The Texans first opponent in pool play was the Goldthwaite Eagles. The Texans battled hard and came out with the 56-47 win.

In the Texans second game of the night, Wimberley battled the Big Spring Steers. The Texans played another tough game against the Steers but ultimately fell short in a 69-60 loss.

Wimberley played the early game of the Saturday slate against the Cisco Loboes coming up short against the Loboes losing 47-44.

In the Texans final game of the tournament, Wimberley took on host team Brownwood to determine fifth place. The Lions got off to a fast start out scoring the Texans 58 to 37 in the first half and never looked back as Brownwood won 85-66.

Both basketball teams were on the road Tuesday as the Lady Texans traveled to Gonzales to battle the Lady Apaches while the Texans traveled to Burnet to battle the Bulldogs.
