Wimberley’s season ends in Bi-District round of playoffs

If there was one thing to be said about the Wimberley Lady Texan basketball team, it was that they never quit ‘til the final buzzer.

The Lady Texans fought hard against a tough Salado team but ultimately came up short as the Lady Eagles overwhelmed Wimberley with seven three pointers en route to a 59-49 loss.

From the opening tipoff, it was a battle between the Lady Eagles and the Lady Texans as neither had a lead bigger than three points in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, Wimberley trailed 15-12.

The battle continued throughout the second quarter as neither Salado nor Wimberley let up. After a Rhyan Masur three pointer to kick off the second quarter, the Lady Texans struggled to score from the paint. With the Lady Texan defense coming up with big plays, it was the free throw shooting by Wimberley that was keeping up with scoring.

After two big layups from Brina Jones and Emily Thames in the final seconds of the second quarter, Wimberley trailed Salado 29-25.

With the third quarter under way, the Lady Texans continued to fight hard against the tough Salado defense. Scoring 14 points during the period, Wimberley kept up with a furious offensive attack by the Lady Eagles to keep the Lady Texans in check. As the two teams entered the fourth quarter, Wimberley trailed 44-39.

Though the Lady Texans kept fighting hard, the Salado offensive attack was too much in the end. Scoring 15 points in the final period, the Lady Eagles finally put away Wimberley en route to a 59-49 Bi-District win.

Brooke Burcham led the team in scoring with 14 points followed by Jones with 11 points.

It was a historic season for the Wimberley Lady Texans for many reasons. The Lady Texans clinched their first playoff berth in three years while clinching their highest seeding as a team in nearly four years.

With their season at an end, Wimberley hopes to build off their success to wards future playoff success.
