WHS swim team starts the season
The Wimberley High School swim team placed eighth overall at their second meet of the year. This meet was for smaller teams of 25 swimmers or less.
“I had a lot of swimmers improve their times by multiple seconds,” WHS Swim Coach Jill Johnson said. “It was a great swim meet for us.”
Thom Naccarato was the only Wimberley swimmer to take first place in an event and he did it twice. Naccarato won the 50-yard Freestyle with a time of 23.18 seconds and he also wont the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.80 seconds.
“He is the best swimmer on the team and will probably go to state this year,” Johnson said. “He is so smooth and makes it look effortless.”
Sophomore Jesse Walker also found some success and drastically improved his times. Walker placed fourth in the 200-yard Freestyle and seventh in the 100-yard Backstroke.
“Jesse improved his backstroke time 14 seconds from last year to this swim meet,” Johnson said. “He has been swimming club all summer and it has definitely paid off for him. That is a huge improvement.”
The boys 400-yard Freestyle Relay placed third with a team of Naccarato, Walker, Sebastian Cecchini and Nick Smith.
Overall, the boys team placed sixth an the girls team placed 14th.
