Volleyball gets prepared for district

After a week and a half layoff from play in the middle of the season, the Lady Texan volleyball team had a tough time getting back into the swing of the season against Poth last week.

“We were a little slow coming out of the gate,” Head Coach Stephanie Barthels said. “We did a lot of things well, we just couldn’t finish. I think that had something to do with the break we took.”

The varsity team had a weekend off scheduled to help work the Freshmen and Junior Varsity home tournament. Another game got canceled by the opposing team, which caused the extended break to happen midseason.

Wimberley lost 3-1 versus Poth, which makes the Lady Texans record 18-10 on the season, but there were still some bright moments in the game.

Reilly Horn lead the team with 12 kills with Rayna Pack right behind her with eight.

“Reilly put the ball a way when we needed it most,” Barthels said. “Rhyan Masur also played really well on the back row.”

Wimberley plays Sunny Brook, a private school from San Antonio, on Tuesday after the Wimberley View’s time of press. The next game will be Friday in Llano to start district play. The game time was pushed back to 5:30 p.m. due to a pep rally Llano scheduled for homecoming.
