UIL suspends all school sports

The University Interscholastic League has suspended all UIL competitions starting March 16th and lasting till March 29th due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus).

“We are urging our member schools and their communities to stay vigilant and take every possible precaution to remain safe and healthy,” UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt said in a statement.

Wimberley Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Doug Warren commented on the situation.

“It’s kind of shocking I guess,” Warren said. “But we want the safety of all kids to be at the forefront… So we will go with it and we will make the best of it.”

For many of the Wimberley students, especially the seniors, it is a disappointing announcement but Warren says he knows the kids will bounce back from adversity.

“I’ll think they (kids) will be little disappointed,” Warren said. “These kids love to compete and play these games but that will be the initial reaction… but the kids will bounce back and when we get back to practicing and playing we will right back amongst it.”

The news of the UIL suspending their spring season comes off the heels of the NCAA suspending their Winter/Spring seasons due to coronavirus and after major sports leagues UIL website and social media accounts for more announcements.
