Two headed for state swim and dive
Two students from Wimberley will be headed to the UIL State Championship swim meet.
Thom Naccarato qualified in multiple events including a first place finish in the 100-yard free style. He also qualified in the 100-yard backstroke.
Even Mayhew will head to the State Championship for the fourth year in a row after taking second place in diving.
“These two have worked so hard these past few years,” Swim Coach Jill Johnson said.
Overall, the swim and dive team took 18 athletes to regionals. Of them, five girls and seven boys moved on to the finals during the meet.
“This is quite an accomplishment for such a young team,” Johnson said. “I am so proud of these young women and men and can’t wait to see what the future holds. It has been quite a year starting out with 12 freshman that didn’t have a lot of swimming experience but they worked hard and developed into great swimmers.”
The UIL State Championship swim meet will be held February 15 and 16 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center at the University of Texas.
