Track teams take top honors at Texan Relays

In what might have been the last school sport of the month, or perhaps even the high school year, the Wimberley track team held up its end of the bargain as the varsity and junior varsity boys took first place and varsity girls placed second at the Texan Relays.

“It was a really great meet,” Head Track Coach Josh DeMarco said. “There were a lot of tough teams, even some 5A schools, and we competed really well.”

Christian Marshall was the top boys athlete at the meet scoring 34 points over four events. He placed first in the 110-meter hurdles and triple jump, placed second in the 300 hurdles and third in the long jump.

In fact, Wimberley swept the 110-meter hurdles with Marshall placing first, Rory Hughes second and Simone Ramirez third. Hughes also won the 300-meter hurdles with Marshall finishing second and Ramirez fourth.

Juan Olmedo placed second in the 400-meter dash. The 4x200-meter relay team placed second. The 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay placed third.

In the field, Cooper Mc-Collum placed third in the shot put, and Luke Wray placed first in the high jump.

For the varsity girls, Brina Jones was the second leading girls athlete scoring 37 points. She took first place in the long jump and triple jump while being a part of the first place 4x200-meter relay along with Rhyan Masur, Maddie Martinez and Emily Thames. She also placed second in the 100-meter dash.

Thames also placed second in the 200-meter dash. Ashlyn Royal took first place in the 800-meter run and second place in the 1600-meter run. Holly Harwood placed second in the 400-meter dash and Haley Hall placed third in the 800-meter run. Grace Harney placed third in the 300-meter hurdles. Wimberley’s 4x400-meter relay placed second.
