Texans volleyball takes control of the district lead

It was an important week for the Wimberley Texans Volleyball as the Texans were set to battle rival Fredericksburg and Boerne who were chasing the Texans for the district crown.

The first game of the week was against the rival Battlin Billies Tuesday Night at home.

The first set was a dominant effort by Wimberley as the Texans won the first set 25-10.

The Texans continued their momentum from the first to the second with another dominant performance in the second set rolling to a 25-13 set win.

Wimberley then finished off the Billies for the threeset sweep rolling to a 25-9 win.

Leading the way for the Texans was Paige Crawford who led the team in kills with nine. Brina Jones held the net with three blocks while Analyse Detmer slammed home four aces.

Friday night the Texans were set to battle the Boerne Greyhounds in a game that could potentially determine the district crown.

In a hard-fought first set, the Greyhounds came out on top taking the first set 25-20.

The second was another war between the two teams as the first one to 25 points wasn’t enough.

This time it was the Texans who came out on top winning 29-27 to tie up the game at 1-1.

With a very important third set coming up, Wimberley stormed out and never looked back winning the set 25-16.

The Texans finished off the Greyhounds once and for all winning the decisive fourth set 25-12 to win the match 3-1 and firmly take control of first place in the district.

Leading the Texans was Crawford again who led the team in kills with 15 and blocks with four. The trio of Detmer, Jones, and Ryhan Masur led the team in aces with two apiece.

Wimberley is back on the road after the two-game home stretch with road trip to Comal Davenport to battle the Wolves before traveling to Bandera Friday night.

A win at Bandera will hand the Texans a third straight district championship.
