Texans Volleyball kicks off District play with win

The Wimberley Texan Volleyball team looked set to defend their district crown last week against the district rival Boerne Greyhounds on the road.

With the two teams coming off non-district play with the two best records, this was sure to be an epic matchup.

The first set of the matchup saw the Texans come out on fire dominating with Greyhounds in a 25-13 set win.

The Texans then took a commanding 2-0 lead over Boerne winning the second set 25-18, before ended up dropping the third set at 13-26.

Both Boerne and Wimberley fought tooth and nail in the fourth set before the Texans sealed the match win with a close 25-21 victory in the fourth set and the game 3-1.

The trio of Briana Jones, Paige Crawford, and Holly Hardwood led the team in kills with 11 apiece. Jones led the team in blocks with three while Analyse Detmer led the team in aces with three.

With their district win behind them, the Texans finished the week at home against the Davenport Wolves.

The Texans trampled the Wolves in the first two sets winning 25-15 and 25-12.

The Wolves fought the Texans hard in the third before coming away with the 25-20 loss.

Wimberley secured the win in the fourth fighting off the Wolves in a 25-19 win and winning the game at 3-1.

Crawford led the team with kills with 19 while Jones led the team in blocks with three. Crawford and Detmer both led the team in aces with two apiece.

Wimberley resumes district play against Bandera at home Tuesday night before traveling on the road to rival Canyon Lake Friday Night.
