Texans settling in to new team with win

After defeating the South Austin Warriors 75-37 on Friday, the Texan basketball team hoped to continue their winning ways last week against Smithville and Liberty Hill.

Texans traveled to Smithville on Tuesday to battle the Tigers in hopes of their second consecutive win.

The offense was off to slow start during the first quarter as the Texans only managed four points during the quarter and trailed the Tigers 6-4 during the period.

Wimberley soon found themselves trailing at halftime down 17-12 as both defenses held down the other’s offense.

But the Texans finally broke through in the third quarter and never looked back outscoring the Tigers 25-8 in the third quarter to give the team some breathing room.

Wimberley finally put away Smithville for the victory winning 50-37 for the Texans second consecutive win.

Leading the way the Texans was Junior Houston Murphy with a game high 15 points followed by Josh Limely’s 10 points. Limely also led the team in three pointers with two along with Ethan Schleder.

Though their game was moved to Saturday due to weather, the Texans traveled to Liberty Hill to battle the Panthers who were ranked at fifth in the TABC 4A rankings.

Battling one of the top ranked teams in 4A at home. Liberty Hill jumped all over the Texans and were up on Wimberley 34-24 at halftime.

Though the Panthers were up on the Texans, it didn’t stop Wimberley from battling back. The Texans fought hard but ultimately came up short against the Panthers losing 69-52.

The Texans came back home on Tuesday to take on the Marion Bulldogs before kicking off district play against the undefeated Fredericksburg Battlin Billies on Friday.
