Texans clinch the third seed

The Wimberley Texans Basketball team shored up the 3rd seed in the district with a 64-23 win over the Llano Yellow Jackets.

With Canyon Lake’s loss to Bandera two weeks ago, the Texans will avoid dropping down to the fourth seed and have secured their place in the playoffs.

The Texans overwhelmed the Yellowjackets for start to finish holding Llano to just two points in the first quarter.

The offense heated up during the period as Wimberley scored 13 points in the first including two three-pointers from Josh Limely and Zane Sutton-Edwards.

The Texan offense continued to dominate the Llano defense during the second quarter as Wimberley’s barrage of three-pointers kept the Yellow Jackets in check. Limely continued his hot streak from the threepoint line hitting two more three-pointers during the period adding to 12 points total in the second half.

By halftime, Wimberley extended their lead to 30-5.

Though the Yellowjackets offense improved in the second half, the Texans stepped up their offensive game scoring 23 points in the third quarter and 13 points in the fourth en route to a 64-23 win.

Limely led with team in scoring with 14 points while Ty Cabler followed second with 12.

Wimberley also played Boerne earlier in the week.

The Texans jumped on the Greyhounds early and were able to take a 15-9 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

Wimberley continued to their offensive dominance in the second quarter as the Texans outscored Boerne 14-10 in the second quarter. At halftime, Wimberley took a 29-19 lead.

But Boerne woke up in the second half as the Greyhounds outscored the Texans 39-23 and won a close 58-52 game.

Ethan Schedler led the team in scoring with 14 points while Houston Murphy finished second with 13 while leading the team in rebounds with 10.

Wimberley concludes the regular season at home against rival Canyon Lake.
