Texans clinch District Championship

The Wimberley Texan Volleyball team clinched the district title outright last week with victories over Canyon Lake and Fredericksburg.

The Texans finish district play at 8-0 and finish the regular season with a record of 23-4.

The first game of the week saw the Texans battle rival Canyon Lake. The game had high stakes as the Hawks were looking to defeat their rivals in order to clinch the final playoffs while Wimberley was playing the final home game of year.

A tough battle in the first set between the two rivals ended in a first set victory for the Texans in a 25-20 win to take a 1-0 lead.

After the first set win, Wimberley took full control of the second. In a dominating performance, the Texans won the second set 25-11 to take a 2-0.

To finish the three-game sweep, Wimberley again put together another dominant performance by defeating the Hawks 25-10.

The win offcially clinched the district title outright for the Texans who offcially take the number one seed heading into the playoffs.

But the Texans weren’t done yet as Wimberley traveled to Fredericksburg to take on the rival Battlin’ Billies.

Similar to the first set against Canyon Lake, Fredericksburg put up a valiant fight against the Wimberley Texans. But Wimberley fought off the Billies attack to win 25-23.

Another tough battle by Fredericksburg ended in another Texans win as Wimberley defeated the Billies again winning 25-18.

A dominated performance by Wimberley end in the third set finished off the sweep 25-9 to win 3-0.

Paige Crawford led the team in kills with 13 while Briana Jones and Cameren Davis held the net leading the team in blocks with three. Holley Harwood led the team in aces four.

The Wimberley Texans will take on Johnson City in a warmup playoff game Tuesday night in Wimberley before traveling to Pleasanton to take on the Pleasanton Eagles in the Bi-District round of the playoffs Thursday night.
