Texan Round Up

Volleyball

Led by 21 assists from sophomore setter Jordan McFarland and 11 digs by senior Addie Maxwell, the Wimberley Texans dispatched visiting Fredericksburg in three games 25-14, 25 18 and 25-21 last Friday night. Maxwell also served three aces while Olivia Linton and Reilly Horn each scored seven kills. The win over the Billies upped the Texans team record to 26-11 with a perfect 7-0 district record.

This Friday, Wimberley hosts Bandera in a home match before closing out the regular 2018 season on October 23 at Boerne.

District certification will occur on October 23 to set the brackets for team tournament play. Right now, based upon their stellar record in district play, the Texans expect a high seed, according to Coach Stephanie Barthels.

JV Cross Country

Last weekend the Wimberley cross country runners competed in the District 28 4-A Meet for JV Division. “The girls did a fantastic job and came in second place behind District Champion Bandera,” Coach Brad Biggers reported.

“Freshman Haley Hall won the race with a time of 12:29,” coach Brad Biggers reported. “Haley has done so well all year long as our top runner on JV. She’s just so consistent with her pace. Next year she should make a difference on our varsity team if she keeps developing as a runner as she has this year.”

Several other Lady Texan runners received medals for finishing in the top 15 including Avery Blanch (6th) 14:21, Lexi Howell (8th) 14:51, Lorelei Clapper (11th) 15:18 and Rachel Kimbell-Jack(13th) 15:35

For the boys, freshman Juan Olmedo came in 17th place with a time of 21:01 in the 5K race. “Juan is a two-sport athlete, playing football and running cross country simultaneously,”

Biggers praised his young runner. He is a very hard worker with great natural speed.”

Next up, the Texan runners travel to Corpus Christi for the Region IV Meet on Monday Oct. 22.

Tennis

Depending on the Fall weather, the Texan tennis teams were scheduled to play their first bi-district matches against Lampasas in Marble Falls. Then, those who move forward will compete in the area tournament scheduled for October 18-20 at a site to be determined (depending on October weather, of course.)
