Tennis starts season strong
Texan team tennis is replacing a lot of talent that graduated from last year, but this year’s team is finding its footing early on in the season.
“They have been doing great,” Tennis Coach Lauren Huse said. “We have a young team this year, but they are getting the hang of it and doing their job.”
Wimberley graduated six seniors from the team: Landon Kirchner, Tristan Anderson, Evan Mayhew, Maddie Maxwell, Sydney Wright and Natalie Merkord.
“It is a lot of talent leaving, but I have been impressed with how well the kids have comeback and held their own this year,” Huse said.
Wimberley started off the season placing third in a tournament in Wichita Falls with 16 teams. They have also had victories over Lehman and San Marcos before taking down Canyon Lake in the first district match of the season 18-1.
“Tate Murphy has stepped up this year,” Huse said. “He is playing No. 1. He has some big shoes to fill but he is doing a good job. On the girl’s side, Madi Elliott went to state last year so she is trying to continue that success this year.”
Next up, the Texans take on Fredericksburg on the road on Thursday.
