Sixth grade Texans take championship

The sixth grade Wimberley Texan football team won the Hill Country Youth Football League Championship on Saturday 20-14 over the Lampasas Badgers to cap an undefeated 7-0 season.

Quarterback Jacob Cesta hit Tytus Anderson for the Texans only touchdown in the first half. Kicker Keith Cook made the extra point. In the HCYFL, kicked extra points count as two points. Even with the successful try, Wimberley trailed Lampasas 8-14 at half time.

In the third quarter, running back Reid Wood tied the ball game up with a touchdown run.

With the score tied 14-14, a fortuitous bounce helped set the Texans up for a potential victory. A pass from Cesta bounced into the air. As a defender attempted to intercept the ball, Wimberley offensive lineman Chase Lawson snatched it away and pushed his way to the 10 yardline. The play allowed Wimberley to get close enough for Wood to score the go-ahead touchdown.
