Revenge win over Fredericksburg

The Wimberley Lady Texan soccer team is now in a fight for second place in district play after getting a revenge victory against Fredericksburg last week.

On Tuesday, the Lady Texans tied Bandera 0-0.

“We pretty much dominated possession and had a lot of shots,” Head Coach Brinton Nute said. “We just couldn’t get one past the keeper, so we had to settle for a tie.”

On Friday, the team was boosted by the return of goal scoring leader Holly Harwood in the game versus Fredericksburg. She made her presence known quickly by scoring the first two goals of the game. The first goal came about 20 minutes into the game.

“We really felt the momentum change after that one,” Nute said.

After heading into halftime with a 1-0 lead, Harwood scored another goal to start out the second half. Fredericksburg wasn’t ready to give up on the game and scored a goal quickly. Sunny Jones would score for Wimberley before Cassidy Heineman sealed the game with a score with about 10 minutes left to go. The final score was 4-1.

“Sunny Jones controlled the tempo of the game and her passes were super accurate,” Nute said. “She was instrumental in our victory.”

Wimberley played Boerne on Tuesday night. On Friday the Lady Texans will head to Canyon Lake. A victory over Canyon Lake and Bandera would propel Wimberley into the second position in the district standings.
