PeeWee Texan team takes Superbowl

The Wimberley JV Texans, made up of local third and fourth grade students, won the Hill Country Youth Football League Superbowl over the weekend capping off an undefeated season.

The Texans jumped off to a quick start with a 63-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jake Cesta to Landon Noske. After missing the extra point, Wimberley was up 6-0 over Fredericksburg.

Fredericksburg, which was playing with a team of only fourth graders, responded with a touchdown of their own and tied the game up 6-6. On the ensuing drive, Noske ran the ball in behind the strong blocks of Slade Buell. The extra point, which counts for two points in Pee Wee football, was made by kicker Reece Wortham to bring the score to 14-6 in favor of the Texans.

Late in the fourth quarter, Fredericksburg tried to make a last ditch run at tying the game. On fourth down and two yards to go, Wimberley’s defense held up with Buell, Chase Lawson and William Tamplin tackling the runner short of the line to gain.

The Texans were able to run out the clock to win the ball game.

The touchdown scored by Fredericksburg was just the third score of the season given up by the Wimberley defense, which pitched six shutouts on the way to a 9-0 record this year.
