Lady Texans hit Tex-Fest

The Lady Texan volleyball team finished the annual Tex-Fest home tournament 4-2 bringing their overall record to 4-4.

With 11 returning players and four returning starters, Head Coach Stephanie Barthels is excited about this season.

“I have seen a lot of growth just from the start to where we are now,” Barthels said. “The girls have done a great job staying together. We are staying positive and that is helping us. We have added a couple of younger kids who have meshed well with the older kids and they have brought healthy competition, which has made us very productive and successful thus far.”

The team started out the year with two games verses larger schools Bastrop and San Marcos. Wimberley managed to take both teams to four sets falling 3-1.

While Barthels felt the team shows good progress in both games, the Lady Texans found more success in the win column during Tex-Fest this weekend.

Wimberley swept the first four games of the tournament with wins over Comfort, Cuero, Uvalde and Blanco. Through all four games, Wimberley never lost a set.

The competition continued to increase as the Lady Texans progressed further into the tournament. On Saturday, Wimberley faced United and fell 2-1. That game was followed by a loss to Lockhart 2-0.

Reilly Horn was named to the All-Tournament team.

“Reilly was putting the ball away when we needed it at crucial times to finish out games,” Barthels said. “She has a really competitive serve also and she was hitting her spots. We were very successful with that.”

On Tuesday night, Wimberley played Kerrville Tivy after the time of press. They play next at the Bastrop Cedar Creek Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
