Cross Country takes top spots

The Wimberley cross country runners competed in the Bandera Bulldog Pre-District Invitational at Bandera City Park and came out with fantastic results. For the girls, Ashlyn Royal finished first in the 2 mile race with a time of 11:56. Powered by strong performances from Ericca Zachgo-Peterson (13:02) and Jasmine Cante (13:44), the girls’ team finished second in the team division.

Top runners in those races qualified for the October 9 UIL District 28-4A Championships in Bandera. Before those races, coach Brad Biggers had predicted strong performances for several of his individual runners. Answering his call, Ashlyn Royal ran to first place over the 2K course in a time of 11:56.

For the boys, Griffin Neal finished in second place in the 5K race with a time of 16:55. Alex Ursha and Jacob Wheeler rounded out the top three Wimberley male finishers with times of 18:43 and 19:43 respectively.

Following their successes in the pre-district meet, the Wimberley team competed in the UIL District 28-4A meet which also ran in Bandera, but this time at Bandera City Park. Race results were not available at the time of the View going to print.

Runners who qualify out of the Region IV Championships will race in the UIL State Championship to be held in Round Rock on November 3.
