Cross Country ‘peaks’ at the right time

The Wimberley Cross Country team finally had a full and healthy team to compete, and the results were strong.

The boys team finished second overall and the girls team finished third.

“They ran great,” Head Coach Lacey Lambert said. “It was really exciting. It feels like we are peaking at the right time of the season. Everybody ran strong and I am really pleased with the results.

Griffin Neal was back on the course for his first meet after returning from being injured, and he took first place in the two mile race with a time of sixteen minutes, 23 seconds.

“He looked great,” Lambert said. “He said he felt great coming back, and he was excited to be back on the course and being able to compete at his best.”

Ashlyn Royal finished second overall with a time of 12 minutes and 29 seconds in the 5k race. Ericca Zagcho-Peterson finished 10th.

There were also strong finishes for the junior varsity team. On the boys’ side, Travis Steele took first place. On the girls’ side, Ariana Hernandez finished second, Kaitlyn Cole finished eighth, Lorelei Clapter finished ninth and Mystel Bernal finished 10th.

On Wednesday, Wimberley ran in a pre-district meet in Llano. District will be held at the same location next Thursday.
