Boys’ soccer continues strong start to season

This weekend, the Texan boys’ soccer team will host their own tournament on Thursday-Saturday, January 17, 18 and 19 with four of the highest- ranked teams in Texas. Texan coach Ramez Antoun explains, “For example, “Liberty Hill is ranked second in our region and fifth in the state. “But, Fredericksburg also is ranked near the top in our region. With Canyon Lake, Taylor, Salado and Eastside Memorial also in our tournament, it’s going to be tough to come out on top.”

The Texan boys will play their games at the Texan Stadium on Thursday and Friday at 2:00 then play their last game on Saturday at 11:00.

On January 10-12, the Wimberley boys competed at the Pleasanton Tournament and were tied with LaVernia 3-3 late in the second half then lost on penalty shots. “We were down 3-0 with 20 minutes left, coach Antoun reported. “Then Jack Cole scored twice with assists by Jack Bruner on both goals. Bruner scored our other goal, assisted by Cole to tie the game in regulation time. But, Lavernia picked up a point on penalty kicks and we lost 3-4.”

Wimberley’s boys continued their strong season start with a 7-0 win Saturday morning against Eastside Memorial in the Pleasanton Tournament. Jack Cole scored a hat trick (three goals in a game) and Alan Hernandez added two scores. Jack Bruner and Jose Cano also tallied one goal apiece and Grant Cole provided three assists on Texans’ goals. Pepe Puchote and Brenden Shott split keeper duty in the goal for the shutout.

The final game against Flouresville gave the Texans a 2-0 win with goals by Alan Hernandez and Jack Cole. Grant Cole and Alan Hernandez provided the assists. Pepe Puchote and Brendan Short combined in goal for the shut-out while solid defensive play by Mason O’Connor, Edgar Jimenez, and Remy Wade assured the win.
