What are the other options?

Letters to the Editor

I am one of the 100 people that has a working septic system but will be forced to pay the cost of a sewer system that I don’t need or want. My connection point is on the other side of RR12 so I could be looking at the cost of boring under the highway.

Two other options to consider besides Aqua Texas (AT) vs. city owned plant:

Option 1. A well defined problem will sometimes solve itself. I define the problem as the city wanting to build a sewer system that it can’t afford for 100 people who don’t really want it or need it to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. I would propose pulling out of the project entirely or at least until the city has money and proof that septic systems are leaking and causing a problem.

Option 2. If we target 2000 connections, think of the effect that economies of scale will have on the overall unit cost. If the city feels that they need to fix a non-existent problem, for 100 people who don’t want or need it, I would recommend that they spread their love to all the citizens of Wimberley.

If the mayor and city council think it is important for Wimberley to have a sewer system, then they should step forward and lead by example and include their homes in the service area. Don’t make 95 others clean up the mess while excluding your own property.

If 4 or 5 septic systems are leaking, then get them fixed. AT has already stated that they will come across the creek and hook up any ONE business who wants their service.

I believe the hatred for AT by people who pretend to have skin in the game has prevented a reasonable, FACT based discussion on this subject for a long time. Local media and elected officials have been complacent in treating every voice equally. After all, asking for someone’s name and address is a simple thing especially when it brings so much context to what they have to say.

Citizens need to know the answers to these questions:

1. What is the problem?

2. What is our goal?

3. What do we want to accomplish?

4. How are we going to measure the results?

Sincerely,

Greg Myers
