LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

The results of a good coach

Team Rough Riders 12u Wimberley Baseball. The boys started out in the beginning of the season dropping balls and missing at the plate. Many had signed up for spring ball that was cut short due to COVID. We had the players and no coach. Kelly Latz one of the commissioners for WYSA stepped up and coached our boys with no son of his own on the team. He was amazing from the beginning. Every one of those boys improved so much it was heartfelt to see through the whole thing transpire. From kids to young men. They came together and became a team working together by the end to all be winners.

This is who we are in Hays County

The appropriate headline for the front page story (The Wimberley View, November 5, 2020) was not “San Marcos Biden Bus incident goes national.”

The appropriate headline was “Hays County resident and GOP official Naomi Narvaiz says, “Your kind aren’t welcome here!”

That statement is the heart of the matter. That statement is what is newsworthy.

Earlier this year, the Burrells, a vacationing Black family from Houston, found a racist sign at their Wimberley cabin rental and, feeling unsafe, left early. The sign said, among other things, “get your a**es out of town”

(The Wimberley View, July 8, 2020). The next time there is an incident like this one (and there will be a next time), perhaps spare the handwringing over how “this is not who we are.”

Narvaiz’s statement makes plain that this is exactly who we are in Hays County, until proven otherwise.
