Requests for the Mayor and Council

5/6 of Wimberley Mayor+Council (Councilmember Davis being the other 1/6) apparently think it was entirely reasonable to hold a City Council meeting on July 10, 2018 -- which they knew would be packed -- in a room with 54 chairs for the audience.

(The sergeant grandly brought in one more chair at some point.) How does it make ANY sense for a town of 2,626 people to set up 55 chairs for a Council meeting? That means 2% of the population could be seated.

If Council does not move the July 19 meeting to the Wimberley Community Center, it can rightly be accused of curbing both citizen attendance and citizen comment. I believe providing insufficient space for a meeting is in contradiction to the Open Meetings Act. Could Council business conducted at such a meeting be ruled null and void?

And, no, do not move the Meetings to the WISD setting. It is no improvement over City Hall, and at WISD there is no way to visually record the meeting for the 98% of the populace which can’t be seated.

And fix the microphones!

Sincerely,

Barbara Hopson
