Its time to hold people accountable

Holding people accountable as to the information they share is critical, especially at this point in the discussion. There are many who are swayed to different sides based on friendships, how persuasive the presenter of information is, and especially how much information the organization puts out. No one can deny CARD and NO AQUA TEXAS groups have done an excellent job in getting their word out. I implore people to not ignore the information being put out by either side but to instead dig deeper. Look closely and compare, using as much documentation as possible. Make sure it is accurate, timely, pertains to the discussion at hand and is in the context of the discussion at hand. If it is a generalized statement, I am usually skeptical. The facts I personally need for making decisions just aren’t there. Saying harmful things about anyone or any company without sharing documentation that led to the accusation can do great harm to people and businesses.

Regarding, the recent accusations about Aqua Texas, let’s rely on specific information that would be better for weighing the harm that can be done by AQUA in our particular situation. I personally believe the harm is minimal because they will only be collecting and processing sewage from our city owned pipes. Another accusation that is especially harmful are the accusations (in print) about some in our community getting a “kick back” for promoting Aqua Texas. This is especially harmful to individuals when there is nothing to base this on that I can find. When information is shared in generalized, careless ways like this, documentation and context is huge when drawing conclusions that inform important decisions. Innuendo and theories don’t have a place at the table. I want to see the actual documents, the site they were gathered from, the time frame and as much detail as to the origin of the claim as I can get. Our community is about to make a big decision, a big commitment financially for 30 years. Having accurate and complete information (whenever possible) is a big part of good decision making. I voted for the current council and mayor because I trusted they would do this due diligence work and then share their findings publicly. So far that has been what has happened. Will their decision be perfect? No decisions ever are. I do believe they will do the best job possible under the circumstances and therefore trust the end results.
