Dangerous intersection needs attention

It seems essential to me to make this moment meaningful, and recognize a dear couple, Aileen and RJ Fields, whose bodies and musical instruments were broken at the intersection of RR12 and Spoke Hollow on Aug. 11, after leaving a joyful musical picking circle at our Wimberley home. I recall telling Aileen that it was her lucky day (ouch), as the couple gathered up their two Martins and new dulcimer to head back to Canyon Lake following four hours of merrymaking tunes and laughter. Earlier this spring, she had celebrated her 70th birthday in Fischer, where she led us through many types of folk dances. Kind active people. Teetotalers.

Bearing this tragedy in mind, I would like to caution all who pass the Spoke Hollow intersection on RR12 to be mindful. Look, look, and look again. For some unknown reason, the yellow line is dotted -- as a passing zone! Commissioner Lon Shell, all it takes is paint to correct this TXDot mistake! Can you help? Folks speeding down the hill from the Junction, can you slow down and be ready to brake? Those in a hurry to leave Wimberley, watch out for the car stopped smack in your RR12 lane, waiting to turn left onto Spoke Hollow. And deer. Deer have been slain and drivers endangered, because no “Deer Crossing” signs have ever marked their long established trail over the road.

RJ and Aileen have been in and out of surgery, and hopefully with time their suffering will lead to complete healing. Fortunately, the other guy in the accident was spared. I am not assigning blame. His car could beat a Honda Fit in the way, on any day. I beg drivers to be watchful. Lives can change in an instant...
