Alexander Joseph Peters June 29th 2002 - March 14th 2020

A memorial service will be held for Sam on March 20, 2020 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Wimberley. He fought so hard to overcome the cancer that invaded his body and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his friends and family on March 8, 2020.

Royce Phillip (Phil) Baker, aged 72, affectionately known as Bepa/Boppa, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2020. He was born in 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Jim and Mary Baker who preceded him in death. He had no siblings, but very close cousins by the dozens. He spent many days fishing, hunting, and enjoying being in God’s great creation.

Funeral services for Judge Charles R. “Charlie” Holcomb, 86, of Wimberley and formerly of Alto will be Thursday, March 5, at 11 AM in the A. Frank Smith Methodist Church in Alto. There will be a graveside service at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin Friday, March 6 at 2 PM. Judge Holcomb will have the honor of burial in the state Cemetery because he had served as a State Judge on the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals from 2001 to 2010. Judge Holcomb passed away in his sleep Friday, February 28 at his home in Wimberley. He was born September 8, 1933 in Alto, Texas to Henry Lee Holcomb and Hazel Lee Thompson Holcomb, the oldest of 4 children. Charles married his high school sweetheart, Anita Jane Heintschel, his wife of 68 years. Charles and Anita had 3 children Sherry, James and Katrina. Charles attended Lee College in Baytown and Lamar University in Beaumont before receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the South Texas School of Law in 1958. He began his career in private law practice while also continuing to work at Shell to make ends meet, before becoming the city attorney for Deer Park in 1959. He moved to Orange later in 1959 and became the city attorney for about 12 years. In 1967 he was elected Orange County Court-at-law Judge and served until 1972. From 1972, after moving to Alto, until 1981 he was in private practice at the Cox, Holcomb & Sinclair law firm in Rusk, contemporaneously serving as Cherokee County attorney from 1974 until 1981. In 1981 Charles was elected Cherokee County District Attorney and served until 1991. In 1992 he was elected to the Twelfth Court of Appeals in Tyler serving until 1998. While serving on this court, it was ranked as a top performing appellate court by the state legislative budget board. From 1998 to 2000 he was assigned by Chief Justice Tom Phillips to serve the Dallas Trial and Appellate Court to eliminate a backlog of cases. Judge Holcomb was elected to the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals in 2000, re-elected in 2006, and served until 2010. He was an avid golfer and a member of the A. Frank Smith Methodist Church in Alto. Dearly loved by his family and very well liked and respected by those who knew him.He was preceded in death by son James Austin Holcomb. He is survived by wife Anita Holcomb of Wimberley, daughters Sherry Holcomb Seago and husband William of Orange, Katrina Holcomb Thompson and husband Edward of Driftwood, 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A visitation will be held Wednesday at the funeral home in Alto from 6-8 PM.

Alana Biggs passed away peacefully in her home on February 28th, 2020. She was wrapped in the love of her family during one of her favorite times...a rare, warm, and sunny day in February filled with singing birds and the first hints of spring.

Nancy J. McCarley, age 90 and a resident of Wimberley, Texas passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Nancy was born January 13, 1930 to parents Royce and Mary Mitchell.ley of Center Point, Texas, she is also survived by dear friend, Jill Zuehlke of San Angelo, Texas. She graduated high school in 1948 and continued her education at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Nancy was married to Robert R. McCarley on October 4, 1952 in Crane, Texas. They were married 64 years. Nancy began her teaching career in Kermit, Texas then taught school for the Calhoun County ISD. Following her husband’s retirement in May 1985, they moved to Wimberley, Texas. She continued teaching in Dripping Springs, Texas until her retirement. Nancy was preceded in death by husband Robert. She is survived by daughter Lee Ann McCarley of San Angelo, Texas and Steve Askew, daughter Laurie Sisak and husband Jimmy of New Braunfels, grandson Tim and wife Stephanie and grandchildren Avery and Peyton of Seguin, Texas, her dear cousin Kelly Ludeke of New Braunfels, Texas, special niece, Julie Brooks and husband Ash-

Jeffrey P. Oakford, Sr., age, 70 of Wimberley, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 7th, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. Jeff was born on January 28th, 1950 to Helen and George Oakford in Cleveland, Ohio. He met his wife, Dorothy, of 50 years at a basketball game in Newberry, Ohio in 1970 and was married later that year.

Mr. Charles “Todd” Moland III passed away Tuesday, February 18th 2020 in Cypress Healthcare & Rehab Facility in San Marcos, Texas. Todd was born June 11, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. The youngest of two sons to Charles H. Moland Jr. and wife, Gladys. Todd graduated from high school in Cantonville, Maryland in 1961. Shortly afterwards he went to work for Mobil Oil company for a few years, then felt the urge to fulfill his military obligation by serving in the united states marine corps until 1967. In 1970 Todd decided to move to Austin, Texas where he worked for Southland Corp for 30 years. In august of 1975, Todd married Linda Joyce Birdwell. They were married for 21 years until her death, which was caused by cancer. They had no children between them. In 1997, Todd attended Great Hills Baptist Church where he met Linda Crawford who became his lifelong friend. They were both active in the singles ministry group. A few years

Michael Eugene Robbins, 66, of Driftwood, TX passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020 in Kyle, TX. Stanley “Stan” Alton Starrett Jr., 81, of Wimberley, TX passed away at home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wanda Oertling Bradfield was born on February 12, 1938 in Welch Louisiana, the youngest of three children born to Ira and Wanda Oertling. Her family would later move to Houston where her father was employed as a rice buyer. Wanda attended and graduated from Lamar High school in Houston and completed one year of college studies at University of St. Thomas where she met her future husband Bill Bradfield.
