    WILTON E. ‘BUBBA’ LOMAX

Wilton E. ‘Bubba’ Lomax

Wilton E. (Bubba) Lomax passed away at home in Wimberley, Texas on December 27, 2020 at the age of 84.

Bubba was born in Houston TX in 1936 and raised in Spring Branch, back when the outskirts of Houston was still country. He graduated from the University of Houston and taught chemistry and science at Spring Branch High School until moving to Wimberley in 1965 to teach horticulture and serve as a counselor at Gary Job Corps in San Marcos. He completed his Masters at SWTSU, taught horticulture for a time at the university and owned a landscaping business and plant nurseries (Lomax Garden Land) in Wimberley and San Marcos. He officially retired after serving as head of Transportation & Maintenance at WISD.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. His times at the deer lease and fishing with friends were some of the best. Camp Peniel was also a fond memory and spiritual influence in his life. He enjoyed working with youth, from the early years teaching swimming at the Dads Club, to the Community Church in Spring Branch and the First Baptist Church in Wimberley where he taught Sunday School and helped with youth retreats. In later life his paintings, carvings and satirical drawings entertained and became collectors’ items for his family.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Lillian Lomax, and his sister, Patricia (Lomax) Sanders and brother-in-law Norman Sanders. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sally Lomax, his two daughters and their husbands, Holly and Jim Miller and Mandy and Jim Gibson, five grandchildren (Jessica Fuchs, Nicole Gonce, Paul Miller, Justin and Jordan Gibson), and nine great-grandchildren.

Bubba was one-of-a-kind and quick witted to the end. To quote one of his devoted nephews, he was ‘beloved and revered’ and will be dearly missed.

We would like to thank the staff of Bluebonnet Palliative Care and Angels for Elders for their compassionate care and assistance in his last days.

A celebration of his life will be planned for a future date. Anyone wishing to donate in his memory may visit www.camppeniel. org. For more information please visit thomasonfuneralhome.com.
