    VIRGINIA “GINNY” BUTTERFIELD

Virginia “Ginny” Butterfield

Virginia “Ginny” Butterfield passed away peacefully in her home in Woodcreek (Wimberley, Texas) Wednesday evening, January 23, 2019.

As a child in South Dakota, Ginny enjoyed playing outdoors. She lived at a grocery store with her family and loved helping the customers. Her family were founding members of the Jack Pine Gypsies Motorcycle Club, where she rode an Indian Scout Motorcycle and won a number of competitions, which was quite unusual for a woman in the 1940s.

Ginny received a BBA in accounting from the University of Texas Permian Basin. She worked for a Montana public accounting firm and an oil company before moving to Houston with the IRS as a Treasury Agent. Ginny moved to Wimberley upon her retirement where she became an active member of the local community. She enjoyed cross-word puzzles, book club, playing golf and “wine time” with her friends. An avid bridge player, Ginny rarely missed her weekly games. Additionally, she was a dedicated member of the Wimberley Presbyterian Church and served in various capacities. She cared deeply about her friends and ensured they got rides to their medical appointments, had soup and food (when ill) or got rides to church.

Above all else Ginny loved her family and took advantage of any time she could spend with them. She cherished her role as Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

Be it fate, good-planning, or the hand of God, Ginny was able to visit each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the two weeks preceding her passing. We will hold these memories close to our hearts.

Virginia Butterfield (Rhoades) is preceded in death by her father Fontanet Edward “Slim” Rhoades, mother Dorothy Rhoades, and brother Cecil Rhoades.

Ginny is survived by: Her sister Judy (Ralph) Zoller and sister-in-law Henrietta Rhoads of South Dakota. Her sons and daughtersin-law: Mark (Angela) Butterfield, Austin, TX, Craig (Dani) Butterfield, Ewa Beach, HI, and Brett (Kimberly) Butterfield. Katy, TX. She also enjoyed her four grandchildren Tara (Matt) Nagel, Dane Butterfield, Leah Butterfield and Bryce (Emily) Butterfield. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Zoe Butterfield, Luke Nagel and Tyler Nagel.

A service celebrating the life of Virginia “Ginny” Butterfield will be held at Wimberley Presbyterian Church on Saturday February 2nd at 11AM. She loved the color blue so all are invited to join us wearing blue in her honor.
