Sylvia Fox Dinsmore

Sylvia Fox Dinsmore, of Wimberley TX, the wellknown Central Texas Hill Country artist was called home by her Creator on Monday, April 13 2020. She was 86 yrs old.

She is survived by her three children, Chyrese (Phillip) Bell, Denny (Diane) Dinsmore and Denise Jenkins. She was the oldest of her sisters, Joyce Allison, Anita Cates, Arlene Wingo and Carol Lawrence. She had 5 beautiful grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton Lester Fox and Lula Ruth Vaughn and son-in-law Howard Jenkins, Jr.

Sylvia was a native of the Texas Hill Country, born and raised, Texan through and through. A graduate of Southwest Texas State University with a major: Home Economics, and a minor Fine Arts. She taught Home Economics at Del Valle Jr High, where one of her students was Ms. Priscilla Beaulieu, the same Priscilla who caught the eye of Elvis Presley.

Sylvia began painting professionally in 1970 and studied with well-known artists, CB Norman, J Mahaffey, J Posey, Edith Scott and Dalhart Windberg. The influence of these respected artists resulted in her unique style of art combining watercolor, acrylic, ink and pastels on synthetic rice paper, which became her trademark. She opened her studio and gallery in Wimberley in 1985.

Throughout the years, she showed and sold her artwork in many art galleries throughout Texas, including Austin, Salado, Houston and San Antonio, as well as Washington DC and Natchitoches, LA.

She won Best in Show at the Austin Artist Harvest Art Fair, the Salado Art Fair, the Texas State Fair and the Melrose Plantation Art Fair.

Sylvia was blessed to be able to share her creative spirit and inner joy through her artwork. It had been many years since she was able to paint. However in the last months of her life, she found and began expressing her joy through art again. Those who own an original piece of her artwork most likely cherish it even more today.

Sylvia was a devout believer and Christian woman raised in the Church of Christ.

Her favorite verse: Isaiah 40:31: But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

She will forever be remembered as a beautiful and caring friend with a lovely smile, infectious laugh, mischievous wink and kind heart. Everyone she met became her friend.

A small ‘family only’ gathering and graveside service will be held on Monday, April 20th under direction of Thomason Funeral Home, San Marcos, TX. The family appreciates your prayers. In lieu of flowers, we thank you for donations to her beloved church family at: Wimberley Church of Christ, PO Box 1695, Wimberley, TX 78676.

We take comfort knowing she is flying high on wings of eagles painting her masterpiece.
