Ronald Ralph Spangenberg

Ronald Ralph Spangenberg, 86 of Meadowlakes, Texas, passed away on July 17, 2019. He was born on February 9, 1933 to Ralph H. and Ruth (Schroeder) Spangenberg in Hawley, Pennsylvania. Ron attended Penn State University on a vocal scholarship and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He was proud to be named the Featured Vocalist for Penn State Dance Band. Ron was a true blue Nittany Lion.

After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Ron honorably served as a Captain in the United States Air Force as a weapons controller, navigator and radar specialist. Following his discharge, he worked for General Electric and Westinghouse before pursuing a career in the Home Furnishing Industry. Ron was an Independent Manufactures Representative for 50 years and was a member of the International Home Furnishings Rep Association. He teamed up with his beloved wife, Angie, and traveled across three states selling home furnishings and establishing lifelong relationships with his many customers. Ron was a member of the Central Texas Colony, Mayflower Society.

Ron worked hard…but he played harder. Camping, fishing and waterskiing as a family. Ron was a boat captain with Canyon Lake Skiers, a competing and performing ski team, who notably performed at the Austin Aqua Fest. He loved to golf and was proud to have perfected his open stance slice to the center of the fairway. He and Angie were members of Blue Lake Golf Club. He relished living at his lakefront property on Lake LBJ for 35 years. Ron kept a hook wet as often as he could and loved having his boat hanging over the water.

Ron loved to sing and entertain. Out of this passion was born the Wimberley Gospel Music Festival in Wimberley, Texas, of which he was the founder and organizer. A gospel and ballad singer, Ron earned the spotlight at various events and festivals, charming the crowd with his smile. He liked to “ham it up” and be the center of attention. He did a great Rodney Dangerfield impression. Ron’s favorite holiday was Halloween. He often took this as an opportunity to grab a few laughs and was known for wearing some memorable costumes.

He was known as Ron to many, but there were a special few who called him Paw Paw Ron. He was adored by his family and will be remembered for being a man who was full of life, laughter and many surprises.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Angelyn Dennis Spangenberg of Meadowlakes, Texas; daughter Rendy Ruth Spangenberg of Wimberley, Texas; son Ronald Freeland Spangenberg and wife Diana of Wimberley, Texas; and three granddaughters: Sarah Spangenberg Fisher and husband Hugh of Ogden, Utah, Tasha Lee Spangenberg of Portland, Oregon, and Katrina Eileen Spangenberg of Beer Sheva, Israel. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Ruth and Hank Sherman.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 29, 2019, at Marble Falls Cemetery, 400 S. Avenue S, in Marble Falls. An online registry may be signed at www.Cremation-Advocates.net.
