Myrtie Marie Smith

December 29,1936 - November 15, 2019

Marie Smith passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of November 15. Born December 29, 1936 in Dripping Springs, Texas to parents Sarah M. Whisenant and W.A.Smith, She spent most of her early years in Driftwood Texas as part of a large family that came to the area in the late 1800s. In her early teens, the family moved to Wimberley where she would live out the rest of her life. Known to many as Jo, she spent her early years riding horses and rescuing wildlife . She was a caring and gracious human being whose life was fraught with much sadness and many disappointments but you would never know it when you passed her on the street or down the hall or anywhere because she carried herself with such light and a willing smile. A sweet and gentle soul she will be greatly missed. She was married to James T. Shirley and later in life, Joel Dean Smith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She gave birth to six children, and worked for the Wimberley school district for more than 20 years as a custodian. She leaves behind 4 living children, 9 grandchildren and many dearly adored great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Marie’s life with Rev. Sandy Londa and a small reception after, will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Wimberley. All forms of condolences are welcome.

The family wishes to thank Blue Bonnet Palliative Care for their kind and loyal care and request anyone moved by the spirit of caregiving to donate to http://bluebonnetpc.comor call 512-537-8950.
