Mary Evelyn Guidry

Mary Evelyn Guidry was born September 20,1933 in Port Arthur, Texas to Roy Van Taylor and Florence Hopkins Taylor. She was married in 1952 to Joseph Donald Guidry until his death in 1987. She went to be with the Lord August 3, 2018 . She was living in Lakeway, Texas. She resided in Wimberley for 15 years to be close to family after moving from Houston, Texas. Evelyn had many accomplishments in her life her proudest one being raising 5 children and serving the Lord with all her heart and soul.

In 1966 she was named “Outstanding Women of the Year” by the biographical Editorial in which Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson was honorary chairman and sponsored by leaders of Women’s organizations, honoring America’s outstanding young women who have made major contributions to community ,church and organizations . This was awarded because she with the first president of the charter group, Spina Bifida Association, she founded with Mary Lou Badger and Houston neurosurgeon Dr. E.M Fountain. Evelyn has a daughter born with Spina Bifida. This organization is now part of the Easter Seal Society.

Evelyn also received a service award from Mayor Louie Welch of Houston in 1965 for her work on the Mayor’s Commission for a mental retardation survey and founding the Spina Bifida Association.

Evelyn served as leader, organizer and co-director of Day Camp, Council Representative of Girl Scouts from 1961-1966 and was a Sunday School Teacher at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Houston. She was very active in the Teresians, a women’s group in the Catholic Church devoted to serving the community and studying the Bible. Evelyn became a Travel Agent after her children were no longer at home, and she lived out her dream to travel extensively. She was an avid reader and started a book club in Wimberley. She loved to play and watch the game of golf.

She joins her mother, father and husband Joseph Donald Guidry and also her sisters Juanita Massingill and Kathryn Taylor Sanders, her Aunt Alva Morris, and her Niece Carol Sue Stech. and nephew Clifton D. Jackson

Evelyn is survived by Daughters, Cathi Marlene Callahan, Kimberly Ann Olson Guidry, Eileen Carol Guidry, Melinda Kaye Guidry Starkes, and son Gary Stephen Guidry. Daughter-in- law Terry Cardiff Guidry, Son- in-law Trent Starkes. Grandchildren, Holli Kristin Bingle Enos, Jacqueline Guidry Blakely, Joshua Guidry, Grant Guidry, and Blake Guidry, Lauren Olson, Will Olson, Erin Katie Olson, Alex Starkes,and Grace Starkes. Great Grandchilden, Violet Clarie Blakely, Lyla Rose Blakely, Jeremiah Olson, Marlyn Olson. Nieces Charlyn Travers, Anita Givens, and Lynda Jackson.
