Iva Lene Jarrard Goodman

IvaLene Jarrard Goodman went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 14, 2019 at her home in Wimberley, Texas. She was born on February 24, 1934 in Palestine, Texas to Mattie Blanche and Fred Alton Jarrard. She was raised on their farm just outside of Palestine with 10 brothers and sisters. She married Donald Wayne Goodman in 1952 and moved to San Antonio. Dad was in the Air Force and they began a journey she never dreamed she’d be a part of. They lived in Texas, California, Washington State, Nebraska, Belgium, Washington DC and Philadelphia. Mom was adamant that she created an environment of home, no matter where we lived. And everywhere she lived, Mom served. In various churches, Mom was active with leading Youth Groups, participating in the Women’s Missionary Union, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and counseling couples with Dad as well as leading Girl Scout Troops and volunteering with the American Red Cross.

In 1991, they retired and moved home to Texas where they built their dream home in Wimberley. She stayed there after Dad died in 1996 and continued to serve in her church and community.

Mom was beautiful inside and out. That came from her love for the Lord and her love for her family. She never faltered in her faith – through all of life, in the good times and the bad, she remained firm in the knowledge that she was a child of God, that He always keeps His promises, that He was always faithful.

She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and friends. She cherished every minute being with those that she loved and who loved her. She was compassionate, joyful, caring, loving, forgiving, and devoted.

IvaLene was preceded in death by her parents, 8 of her siblings, her husband Don and daughter Cynthia. Survivors include daughters Deborah Lynne Emerson and her husband David, son-in-law Lowell, daughter Della Kay Hammond and her husband Hank and daughter Connie Jo Goodman. Sister Linny Gurganis and her husband Adrian, brother Robert Jarrard and his wife Ruth. Grandchildren Cory James Fey, Stephanie and Jason Russell, Michael and Jennifer Emerson, Kim and Evan Reed, Grant and Gina Marek. Great grandchildren Jacob, Andrew and Olivia Russell, Ethan and Aubrey Reed and Harper, Kennedy and Sloane Marek and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. And mom’s special and dear friend whom we call family, Louis Hanson. We love her and miss her dearly.
