    FRANCES MCMASTER

Frances McMaster

April 6th, 1925 ~ February 8th, 2019

Frances McMaster was an award-winning artist, published poet and author of two books. Born an only child into a family of artists and musicians in Austin, Texas, she was taught piano, drawing, and painting by her maternal grandmother and continued painting throughout her life.

Frances graduated from Corpus Christi High School where she received awards in Art and Creative Writing. Later she studied art at Del Mar Jr. College, and the University of Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas with a Master’s Degree in Social Work and became a counselor at the Family Service Center in Houston. Later she entered private practice where she worked until her retirement. She was a pioneer in using visualization, dream therapy, mindfulness, and holistic healing modalities. She was known for her nonjudgmental, compassionate, and progressive approach to psychotherapy.

Frances lived in Fort Clark Springs, Texas with her husband Eric McMaster during early retirement where she painted, presented workshops, contributed to the local weekly newspaper, served as a Rotary officer, was parish pianist, taught art and music, and began writing her books. Her first book, “Death Plays the Lead” published in 2000 was a fast-moving mystery/ romance. Her second book, “Blue Pebbles and Other Gifts of Spirit; Dreams, Intuition, and Synchronicity” was published in 2009. Writing from a Jungian point of view, she used a lifelong collection of her own dreams and synchronistic events to show how material emerging from the unconscious mind can facilitate self-awareness. Frances teaches the reader ways of remembering dreams and understanding symbolism, the language of the unconscious mind. Blue Pebbles was a collection of life stories and events she viewed as guidance from a Higher Source revealing God’s presence in our lives and helping us unfold our greatest human potential.

She lived in Wimberley, Texas from 2006-2019. Frances often spoke of her love for the landscape, wildlife, and community in Wimberley, and told of a deep awakening she experienced in the later years of her life here. She was an active member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Arts Alive Committee, Community of Hope, and led a Jungian study group and the St. Stephen’s Writing Group. She also wrote weekly devotional meditations for the St.Stephen’s congregation and presented workshops and facilitated an ongoing group on writing your life story. She remained independent and active until the last weeks of her life; driving, living in her home, attending exercise classes, staying current with technology and world events and learning something new every day. She was working on a third book of poems and other creative projects in the final years and months of her life. She passed peacefully in the grace of total completeness and surrounded by the love of her family.

She is survived by her son Doc Jones and his children, Aaron and Amanda Mora Jones. Her daughter Sharon Jones, granddaughter India Dunn, and great-granddaughter Stella live in San Diego, California. Frances’ legacy lives on in her broad extended family, cherished friends, and all of those touched by her wisdom, love, and creative spirit.

A public memorial will be held at St.Stephen’s Episcopal Church at11:00 am April 6th, which would have been Frances’ 94th birthday. Details and memories of Frances will be posted at https://www.docjonesrealtor.com/frances. Frances chose to be cremated and her ashes will be spread in a private ceremony in a location that was sacred to her in the Wimberley Valley.
