    FLOYD THOMPSON

Floyd Thompson

On September 30, 2020, Floyd Thompson passed peacefully into heaven to meet his Lord and Savior. Floyd was born on July 29, 1938, in Merryville, Louisiana where he graduated from high school in 1957. While in high school he participated in football and track, and he always enjoyed talking about the good times shared with his friends and classmates. After graduation, he joined the Marines and was stationed in San Diego. Later he attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles where he received a B.S. in Pure and Applied Science as well as his MEd in Guidance and Counseling.

His professional career included his first job as a teacher and coach at his high school alma mater where is was also a sponsor for various school clubs. He later had a great and rewarding career with Brown & Root Engineering and ARAMCO as a Cost Engineer which took him to many stateside and international locations. He and his family were blessed to have lived abroad and travel around the world. Floyd loved making new friends from different cultures and nationalities and enjoyed the cuisine of these beautiful countries.

After his semi-retirement, he and his family relocated to Wimberley, Texas in 1993, where he spent several years as a substitute teacher and where he continued to reside until 2019, when he moved to Cypress Nursing Home in San Marcos until his passing.

Floyd is predeceased by his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson, five siblings and his in-laws, Lt. Col. And Mrs. Dan McGill.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dana McGill Thompson, whom he met on a blind date and proposed to a few months later. Also surviving Floyd are his children, Shawn Floyd Thompson and wife Elizabeth of Kenner, LA, his daughter, Dr. Amber Thompson-Adams and husband, Christopher Lee, and his precious grandchildren, Camdyn Lee and Casen Landry of New Braunfels, TX. His family were the loves of his life, and he loved having his whole clan together, especially to share a good meal and lots of humor. He was always quick to make funny comments (Floydisms) and share humorous stories.

Most of his life he loved to hunt or fish and made many trips to a lease or to Colorado with great friends, making lasting memories along the way. Another enjoyment was his collection of music, and he could always provide interesting information abouts the artists.

Dad, Floyd, Pops and Uncle Flossy will be greatly missed, but forever in our hearts until we meet again!

Floyd was a long-time member of Wimberley United Methodist Church and a former member of the Wimberley Lions Club until health issues interfered.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wimberley United Methodist Church Agape Sunday School class, Heart to Heart Hospice in San Marcos, TX or to the charity of your choice. Because of Covid-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
